There is a great calendar on the wall of the parlor which is used for recording important issues. The semester in Canadian university is shorter then Chinese ,but Exams and tests are much more frequent ,which almost happen in every week.. In the day that lots of exams happen , Maria would like to draw something in the right corner of the calendar-----sometimes a big Sun , sometimes a lovely rabbit like herself which has long eyelash and round face. Sometimes a loving heart , whatever, the signature would never change . Specially, at the end of the term , whoever came back from the exam would be asked how is the exam going . Someone might flourish for well done in the exam and Maria would shout with them excitedly just as the one who did the exam is she herself. Someone would be upset for the exam is too hard , at that moment , Maria would comfort or encourage he/she until they consent to forget the exam and have a good rest.
One day, three juniors hided in the yard of our house for smoking , which made the whole house fill with smoke.. Maria found that and droved them away angrily. She phoned the resident manager immediately for informing them what happened. I heard that she was complaining sadly as if three of them got drug. I though she took that too seriously just as a storm in a teacup. When I was about to leave , I found that Maria was in a daze standing in the yard and then I saw tears come to her eyes. As a matter of fact, she felt so distressed about the student’s smoking.
Even though I was indeed surprised about her sentimentality, I was sure that the tear was not just affectation.
